Wholesale buyers comparing car wash towels usually meet one number first: GSM. It decides how heavy, thick and thirsty a towel feels, and it is the fastest way to compare towels of different sizes. This guide explains what GSM measures, and then maps the constructions in our line to real detailing jobs so you can shortlist faster.
What GSM Actually Measures
GSM stands for grams per square meter of fabric. A higher GSM means more fiber in the same area, which usually means a plusher towel. GSM alone does not tell you the whole story, because the piece weight also depends on the cut: a 600 GSM twist loop towel at 40x40cm weighs about 100 g, while the 850 GSM version of that towel at 60x160cm weighs about 580 g.
The Range in Our Car Wash Towel Line
Our line covers roughly 300 to 1250 GSM across several constructions. The lighter end includes waffle glass towels at 350 GSM and warp knitting towels at 380 GSM, both listed at 40x40cm. The middle of the range includes 420 and 450 GSM frosted towels, a 550 GSM high-density infinity towel, and coral fleece towels at 500 and 600 GSM. The heavy end is twist loop: single side towels at 600, 750 and 850 GSM, and a double layer twist loop towel at 1250 GSM.
Is a higher GSM always the better towel? The honest answer is that the job decides, not the number.
Matching GSM to the Task
For glass, interior wipes and light duty, the lighter towels are the natural pick: the 350 GSM waffle glass towel at 40x40cm is listed specifically for glass wiping, and the 380 GSM warp knitting towel at the same size is listed for polish and buff work. For general hand drying, the middle of the range works: 500 and 600 GSM coral fleece, or the 750 GSM single side twist loop at 40x60cm. For full-panel drying after a rinse, the heavy constructions are the purpose-built choices: 750 GSM at 40x60cm, 850 GSM at 60x160cm, or the 1250 GSM double layer towel at 40x40cm.
Size and Piece Weight Decide the Working Feel
These numbers also explain why two towels at the same GSM can feel completely different once the cuts differ. The single side twist loop towel is a useful example: 40x40cm at about 100 g is a hand towel for interior and spot work, 40x60cm at about 150 g is the usual hand-drying cut, and 60x160cm at about 580 g is the large format listed for drying bigger panels. So when you compare quotes, always read GSM together with size and piece weight - the three numbers move together.
